empowering femtech companies

to revolutionize women’s health

Bethany Corbin, J.D., LL.M., CIPP/US, CHC, CHPC

Hi, I’m Bethany! As a healthcare innovation and femtech attorney and advisor, I’m on a mission to help thought-leading companies—both national and international—revolutionize the global women’s health sector. With almost a decade’s worth of hands-on legal experience, I empower pioneering femtech companies to achieve their goals with well-crafted legal counsel and strategic guidance.

Women’s Health is Human Health

The unfortunate reality is that women’s health has traditionally been neglected from modern science.

Our understanding of diseases, including their causes, consequences, and treatments, is based principally on male physiology, with mere extrapolation to the female body. However, there are many diseases that only impact women, are more prevalent in women, or present with different symptoms in women. In the United States alone, a staggering 15% of women over the age of 18 rate their health as either fair or poor, indicating that there is a critical need for support in this area. Further, while 1 in 10 women around the world will have endometriosis, it takes on average 7 years for the disease to be diagnosed. Similarly, polycystic ovary syndrome affects 3-10% of all women, yet 75% of cases go undiagnosed.

By focusing on women-centric healthcare, femtech companies perform essential work to provide support to the women’s health industry. However, there are a multitude of legal, ethical, and strategic factors that must be considered in order to successfully launch, manage, and grow a leading company in this sector.

That’s where I come in!

As a strong advocate for women’s health and wellness, I am passionate about helping entrepreneurs revolutionize the way society thinks about human health by disrupting and enhancing the “standard” model of healthcare delivery. With experience in both femtech and healthcare laws and regulations, I serve as a thought leader at the intersection of women’s health, law, and technology. I also provide mentorship to innovative femtech and medtech companies across the globe (and at all stages of development) and educate consumers about privacy risks associated with femtech products.

I currently work with the following accelerators:

  • FemTech Lab
  • XLerate Health
  • Techstars
  • Mass Challenge

**Please note that while I am not accepting clients, I am happy to help connect you with a law firm that is. I am only accepting speaking and writing engagements at this time.**

Leading the Femtech Discussion

A Regular Speaker in the Femtech and Digital Health Communities.

Driven by my passion for promoting women’s health, I stay up to date with the latest developments in the femtech industry, including networking with leading femtech professionals and contributing to vital discourse within the professional community. I routinely accept speaking engagements related to women’s health and femtech, and regularly discuss the social, ethical, and legal concerns regarding femtech products and healthcare data monetization. I have also testified about the importance of data privacy for reproductive health before the Maryland Cybersecurity Council’s Ad Hoc Committee on Consumer Privacy.

If you’re interested in connecting with me or having me speak at your event, please contact me at femtechlawyer@gmail.com.

A Prolific Author AND EXPERT SOURCE.

As a lawyer with a passion for writing, I am also thrilled to be authoring the upcoming book, Innovating in Healthcare – Legal, Entrepreneurial, and Ethical Considerations (anticipated release 2024). In the femtech space, I have produced a body of scholarship concerning the ethical implications of femtech, including articles such as Digital Micro-Aggressions and Discrimination: FemTech and the ‘Othering’ of Women (Nova Law Review) and Pay No Attention to That Man Behind the Curtain: An Ethical Analysis of the Monetization of Menstruation App Data (co-author, International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics).

I also serve as a frequent source for reporters and journalists covering women’s health, data privacy, and reproductive justice. I encourage you to check out some of my recent publications and media quotes below and join the discussion!
